JPG's early issues are now on Issu for your browsing: JPG Magazine Issue 1. I have an image on page 19. JPG was the brainchild of couple Heather Champ and Derek Powazek. It was a sparkling digital publishing experiment made from images submitted by photographers. At the time, it was printed using Lulu, then a young on-demand printing service for self-publishers. I remember thinking JPG was ahead of its time. It leveraged all the things great about the web, community, creation and technology.

We stayed a night at Hotel Bazar in Rotterdam in early September, 2001. Only days later we would be rerouted to Canada on our flight home. In St. John's, Newfoundland we would spend another five days waiting for the US air space to open back up after the 9/11 attacks. We slept on the floor of a banquet hall and ate cod for every meal. Years later, we would get a Newfoundland as a pet. Her name is Gigi.
